HOW TO HEAL OUR HEALTH CARE SYSTEM

21st century health care should be patient-centered, collaborative, and interactive.
A comprehensive lifelong preventive health care system should be implemented.
Insurance models must change. Options such as Medical Savings Accounts should be implemented (See page 348 of 'Saving the Soul of Medicine' for more information about Medical Savings Accounts).
The morale problem affecting our health care workforce and our health care professionals must be rectified. Our society must value and respect the hard work and dedication of our health care professionals. We can not continue with a health care system which has created serious shortages of pharmacists, nurses, health care workers and soon - physicians.

Medical education must change. The process needs to evolve into one that will teach a collaborative patient-centered approach. The essence of the experience must change from what is too often viewed as an unpleasant, painful, arduous rite of passage into an experience that is kinder, gentler and more humane.
